Getting around
Almost everybody here can speak decent English, so you won't have any problem with talking to locals in the streets or shops. Amsterdam is really nice and unique city. While walking around the city you'll see a lot of bikers, typical canals, amazing historical buildings and a looot of coffee shops.
Nightlife
In Amsterdam you can find a lot of good clubs but they may be quite expensive. On the other hand not every day you have an opportunity to party at the 20th floor in the highest club in Amsterdam, on the 4th floor of the Ajax football stadium or even in the church. Note that all Amsterdam clubs close early at 5.00 during the weekend and at 4.00 during the week.
Taxi
Taking a taxi from Schiphol Airport to the centre (15 minutes) costs 30 – 50€ per car, depending on the taxi company. We advice you to take a taxi outside the airport. People who offer taxis inside the airport are illegal taxi drivers and you end up paying a lot of money. Taking a taxi in the Amsterdam centre costs around € 15 (for 3-5 km).
Drinks
In Amsterdam's pubs you can find a lot of nice beer brands. Besides the most famous Heineken try out Amstel, Dommelsch, Grolsch, Brand or Hertog Jan. If you fancy something stronger then Jenever is the right thing for you, this spirit is made of juniper so it resembles the taste of well known gin.
